Ally’s golden feeling

Durban North aqautic star wins three events and competitor of the tournament in the KZN lifesaving nipper champs.

IF there’s one aspect of Ally Chislett’s life that doesn’t need improving, it’s the desire and tenacity to succeed. The aquatic superstar won three individual events (Girls U12 body board, surf swim and flags) at the recent KZN nipper lifesaving champs. As a result she was awarded the Girls U12 Competitor of the Competition.

The Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club member defended her surf swim title which she won last year. “I was ecstatic. I was hoping to win and I’m glad I was able to do just that,” she said.

She also won the Girls U11 Surf Swim title at last year’s SA Nipper Champs which she is hoping to defend at the end of April.

Encouraged by her father to get into lifesaving, Ally said she struggled with the demands of the sport initially. “At first I didn’t enjoy nippers, but my coaches helped me a lot and I stuck with it, now I love it. I guess I have my dad to thank for that,” she laughed.

The Grade 7 Virginia Prep pupil has also shown her adaptability on dry land and won the girls U12 KZN biathle champs last year.

“There’s a lot of hard work and preparation coming up and I’m especially looking forward to the SA nipper champs,” she said.
