Murder suspect nabbed
Thanks to two Inanda police units a suspected murderer was arrested in KwaMashu last week.
POLICE have arrested a man who they believe is behind the killing of Sthembiso Biyela. His death came shortly after that of Thamsanqa Mthethwa, who was murdered on 24 March at the violence-plagued KwaMashu hostel, north of Durban. Greenwood Park police are investigating Mthethwa’s murder. The Inanda Cluster Task Team and the Inanda Tactical Response Team arrested the suspect in the Biyela killing over the Easter weekend after the members followed up information about his whereabouts.
The 33-year-old was killed when he and his girlfriend were attacked by unknown gunmen at Jabula Road, KwaMashu Hostel.
It is alleged that the suspects opened fire wounding both the victims. They were rushed to the local clinic where Biyela died of his injuries. His girlfriend was later transferred to hospital for treatment. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation. The motive for their attack is still not known.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said:”The team will work around the clock to make sure that the outstanding suspects are arrested and face the long arm of the law.”
