Brothers beat the rest to be the best
Kyle Hodnett recognised for his achievments at KZNCU awards ceremony.
LOCAL brothers, Grant and Kyle Hodnett, were recently awarded the KwaZulu-Natal Premier League batting (Grant) and bowling (Kyle) awards for the 2013/2014 season, at the annual KZNCU awards evening, held at The Sahara Stadium Kingsmead last month.
Both Grant and Kyle play for the Dynamed DHS Rhythm 1st XI in the Castle Lager KwaZulu-Natal Premier Cricket League.
Chairman of the club, Faried Booley, had high praise for his chargers: “The club enjoyed a great season once again. We were lucky to have both the Hodnett boys playing for us and we look forward to another good season with them.”
Former Gloucestershire County Cricket Club opening batsman and Dynamed DHS Rhythm captain Grant Hodnett, had an enjoyable season for the club. He amassed 729 runs in 14 games at an average 72.90, with a highest score of 119.
“The club exceeded all expectations on and off the field last season. We had a very young team and did exceptionally well to finish the season off the way we did.”
This is the fourth time out of the last five seasons that Grant has won this award, having previously won it in 2009/2010, 2010/2011 and the 2012/2013 seasons.
Grant is currently in the UK, playing for Moorside Cricket Club in the Lancashire and District Cricket League in England.
Younger brother Kyle, had a fruitful season with the ball. Finishing with 28 wickets in 13 games, at an average of 12.04 with an Rpo of 3.07. His best bowling figures came against Berea Rovers, taking five wickets for just seven runs in six overs.
The former MCC Young Cricketer and current BBA marketing management student, clearly managed his time effectively between the lecture room and the cricket field.
“It’s never easy balancing your studies with your sporting commitments. All the assignments and exams meant that I missed a few games, but I worked hard during the 2013 winter and this helped me stay consistent throughout the season.”
Kyle has won this award for the second time now, having previously won it in the 2011/2012 season.
No doubt that players around the province are beginning their preparations for the summer. The 2014/2015 season will start in October this year, with current champions Crusaders looking to defend their title.
