LIV-Village goes bananas for Mandela Day

Various companies from around the north Durban area flocked to LIV-Village to clear a banana plantation in a bid to make way for other forms of agriculture on Mandela Day that is celebrated around the world on 18 July - Nelson Mandela’s birth date.

LIV VILLAGE just outside of Durban North near Hazelmere Dam welcomed volunteers from various companies around Durban on a cloudy Mandela Day today. But the clouds didn’t dampen the spirits of the people who had pitched up to give their 67 minutes to a charitable course. Their aim was to clear a banana plantation so that other agricultural products could be planted on the massive tract of land.

There was laughter all around as the men and women, donned gloves, picked up gardening impediments and got down on their knees, ready to work clearing the 0.1 hectare peice of land. LIV provides holistic residential care for orphaned and vulnerable children.
