Live gets the blues with Raoul and Black Friday

LIVE – The Venue gets the blues on Friday, 15 August with its Blues and Boogie show at 166 Matthews Meyiwa 
(Stamford Hill) Road, featuring Raoul and Black Friday.
The support acts are Bobby & The Dynamites and the East Coast Basement Blues Band. Entry is R50 a person and doors open at 7.30pm. Contact 084 444 8890.

Rocking’ Blues in a style which is anything but laid back.
This week Northglen News chats to front man, Raoul Roux. Raoul and Black Friday describe their style as “ever evolving, learning and developing using blues as the fundamental style.” 

The band’s live performances take their audience on an exhilarating blues journey of audio and visual stimulation. 
The band formed in 2010 and was the brainchild of Raoul Roux, bandleader, lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter.

Raoul and Black Friday performs a blend of blues and rock and appeals to young and old alike, across the demographic spectrum.

What things don’t you like doing? Name two.

Drinking warm beer and standing in a queue.

Tell us about a time when things didn’t go the way you wanted?

When I was 16, I wanted a guitar and my parents could not afford one so I got a part time job, worked really hard and saved up enough money for one. When I finally got my first guitar through hours of hard work the reward was priceless. From my parent’s side it was a great life lesson.

What do you think about when you are alone in your car?

Music.

What’s your strongest memory of your childhood?

Getting my first skateboard, I was about eight years old.

What do you dislike about South Africa?

What makes you angry?

Besides your job, what are you most passionate about?

Fishing

Some advice to people who want to follow your path; what are three things you should never do in this business?

Don’t ever stop, don’t stop dreaming and always be positive.

What do you envision yourself doing when you turn 80?

I don’t know if I would make 80 in this music business, but I would hopefully be retired and sitting on some ‘stoep’ drinking a glass of wine.
