Saders hammer hapless Richards Bay

Crusaders through to the semi-finals of the Murray Cup.

THERE was a sense of Greek Mythology at play on Saturday, with Charlie Mayeza taking centre stage. Everything the flying winger touched turned to gold, much like King Midas, as the Nashua Crusaders thumped Richards Bay 78-3 in the quarter finals of the Murray Cup.

The home side ran in 12 tries, eight of which were scored in a second half blitz. Mayeza and Crusaders star flyhalf Cameron Dunlop each recorded hat-ricks.

A rather sedate start to the game, saw the Bay inexplicably kicking away possession everytime they had the ball in hand, allowing the home side run at them for the duration of the game. A solitary penalty from Richards Bay flyhalf JP Rossouw was the only score for the away team.

At the final whistle Saders coach Ronnie Uys said he was extremely pleased with his team’s execution.

“It’s a fantastic win and all over a superb team performance. I wasn’t too happy with the first half and the half-time team talk reflected that. But when we started the second half we stuck to our gameplans and the result is a confidence booster ahead of our away semi-final,” he said.

Tries: Charlie Mayeza (3), Camerond Dunlop (3), Zandre Grobler (2), Alwyn Carstens (2), John Wilsnach, Cohen Wortley
