uMhlanga guard’s status improves

The wife and son of Dino Moodley are hoping that he will be taken off sedation in the next few days, following the Milkwood shooting.

THREE days after Pinetown policeman, W/O John Norman, was shot and killed during a shootout at the station on Friday, 10 October, the wounded uMlanga Enforce security guard who was shot two weeks ago is still in hospital.

Dino Moodley, was critically wounded in the line of duty, when he responded to a house break-in on Milkwood Drive in uMhlanga. He suffered two gunshot wounds during a fierce gun battle. Analysis of the bullet casing at the scene indicated that two suspects opened fire on the guard.

One of the bullets tore through his femoral artery in his thigh, and he bled out profusely. When paramedics arrived at the scene they could not locate a pulse. It took the paramedics four minutes to revive Moodley, who had been declared clinically dead.

Since the fateful evening Moodley’s state has been touch-and-go. Last week, doctors raised concerns about his kidneys and he has since been placed on dialysis. The resilient fighter has also beaten a serious lung infection.

“He seems to be resounding well to the dialysis. His vitals have slightly improved. He is still heavily sedated and on a respirator, but doctors are hoping to remove some of the tubes,” Anthony Feuilherade, Enforce security director said today.

Moodley has a wife and a 14-year-old son, who have been visiting him at the St Augustine’s Hospital on a daily basis. Feuilherade said they were coping well under the circumstances.

According to Nico Potgieter, the investigation is going slowly, but they are following two solid leads. Thus far investigators have been unable to access the CCTV footage, as the CD was damaged during the robbery. To recover the footage the CD has been sent to experts in Cape Town.
