Community attacks teen assailant

The community took matters into their own hands after a youth brutally stabbed two other men with a screwdriver.

THE Malacca Road Informal Settlement was once again the scene of a violent attack on Sunday night, when two men were brutally assaulted with a screwdriver. This follows a domestic incident were a woman’s boyfriend viciously hacked her face open with a bush knife, more than a week ago.

The two men, believed to be 28 and 35 were critically wounded by an 18-year-old man after an argument ensued, said Robin Candy, chairman of the Greenwood Park CPF.

“One of the men was stabbed up to seven times, and the second victim was bleeding so badly that I could not tell how many times he had been stabbed,” he said.

Candy added that the man in his 20s was lying on the floor when he arrived at the scene, as he had sustained the worst injuries. “He had been stabbed in the chest area. He seemed to be unconscious and did not move at all,” said Candy. The man in his 30s had been stabbed in the head and in the arm.

The already tense and violent atmosphere at the settlement soon escalated as community members began assaulting the teenage attacker. Dozens of enraged residents  amassed at the scene, where they hit and stabbed the young attacker.

It is alleged that an argument broke out among three individuals at the lower section of the site, which escalated a friendly visit into a volatile situation.

Candy also reported that it took the police more than two hours to respond to the incident.  Northglen News was unable to get comment from the SAPS prior to publication.

All three men were taken to a hospital in KwaMashu.
