DOZENS of hours were spent making the beautifully intricate quilt that will be raffled to raise funds for the Durban North Lions Club.

More than 30 members of the Quilters by the Sea club selflessly volunteered their time towards the creation of the quilt. “We all contributed to the sewing of the quilt, and we all donated fabric and money towards it. It is truly is a community quilt – a team effort. It is an amazing feeling to know that we as a group will be able to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Brenda Mayer, one of the quilters.

The annual major fundraiser has been held for two consecutive years. During its first year the members were able to raise an astounding R15 000.
Most of the proceeds will be used to fund the Lions Club’s various projects, but some of the funds will be donated towards other NPOs, said Kay Erskine, chairman of the Durban North Lions Club.

The club, which was chartered in 1967, primary aims is to serve the communities around Durban North and La Lucia.
Some of their projects include catering to the disadvantaged communities in terms of food parcel delivery and health services, health awareness campaigns, tree planting initiatives as well as youth and elderly orientated projects.
