Fire engulfs about 20 homes in Blackburn Village
About 20 wood-and-iron homes were engulfed by a fast-spreading fire in Blackburn, north of Durban, on Monday.
About 20 wood-and-iron homes were engulfed by fire in Blackburn Village this afternoon (Monday, August 24).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received reports of multiple homes on fire and dispatched Reaction Officers to the settlement, where they found the blaze rapidly spreading from one structure to another.
RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said the fire had already gained significant momentum when officers arrived.
“Residents attempted to extinguish the fire but could not gain entry into the homes. The blaze rapidly spread from one home to another,” said Balram.
According to a resident, he had gone outside to hang clothes when he noticed smoke coming from a wood-and-iron home about 200m to 300m from his residence.
Community members tried to contain the blaze, but were unable to stop it from spreading.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
Firefighters were at the scene battling the blaze.
