Paddling the extra mile

Two paddlers are raising funds for the Miles4Marrow Dusi Marathon Campaign.

TWO local paddlers are dedicating their Dusi race to 12-year-old Robbie Eddlers from Livingston School, who has been diagnosed with leukemia for the second time.

Crusaders Canoe Club’s Patrick Wells and his K2 partner, Danielle Barrie-Smith, are raising funds for the Miles4Marrow Dusi Marathon Campaign, which is run by The Sunflower Fund to educate and recruit more potential donors for inclusion on the South African Bone Marrow Registry.

Wells will also be attempting his first Dusi but is not phased by the task.

“This is about doing something for a good cause. This gives hope to patients like Robbie Eddles, who are living with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders and who are searching for their one in 100 000 life-saving bone marrow stem cell match. The more donors on the registry the greater the chance of a patient finding their donor match,” Wells said.
