Sunningdale restaurant robbers nabbed

One of the men arrested is believed to be an employee of the restaurant.

TWO men have been arrested following the robbery of an Indian-themed restaurant in Sunningdale. The robbery, according to police, occurred sometime between 20 and 21 April. According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the robbers gained access to the shop by smashing the front shop window in.

It took detectives less than two days to discover that the robbery was an ‘inside job’.

“A substantial amount of cash was taken as well as passports stolen in the robbery. The detectives who worked on the case investigated one of the employees of the shop and questioned him. The man admitted he had planned the robbery with a call centre worker from the area. He was also found in possession of some of the cash taken in the robbery as well as the stolen passports. The robbers were nabbed just two days after the robbery,” Deokaran explained.
