Man robbed on N2 near Sibaya

Robbers fired shots at man before robbing him on a busy freeway.

A MAN was robbed of R20 and two phones on the N2 freeway near Sibaya Casino on Monday night. The incident occurred at about 7.50pm as the man was walking home. As he neared the Blackburn Informal Settlement (also known as Chopperstown), he heard a gunshot.

“When he turned around he noticed two men, one with a pistol, walking towards him. They frisked him and took R20 and his two cellphones. The men then fled in the direction of the settlement. The man then rushed back to Sibaya Casino to report the incident,” explained Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.

This is the first armed mugging in the area that Northglen News has reported on since January.
