LGE: Reddy aims to address service delivery issues

Sumeshin Sam Reddy says his vision for the area includes safer neighbourhoods and a place where local businesses thrive.

With the 2026 Local Government Elections just around the corner, councillors will be elected for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities across the country’s nine provinces.

This week, the Northglen News took to the streets of Ward 36 that it covers to meet and greet some of the councillor candidates assigned by the different political parties to compete for the hot seat come the November 4 Local Government Elections.

DA Ward 36 Candidate Councillor Sumeshin Sam Reddy

Background: I was born in Durban and spent 27 years in Australia and New Zealand before returning home in 2012 which explains my accent. My parents retired to South Africa in 2007, and my family home has been in Ward 36 ever since. With experience spanning finance, human behavioural science, information technology and marketing, I bring a practical, solutions-driven approach to community challenges. I’m the chair of the Glen Hills and Glen Anil Ratepayers’ Association, deputy chair of the DA Ward 36 Branch, and serve on the Ward 36 Committee for Job Creation and Skills Development.

“My commitment to accountability became personal when a water leak continued for more than three weeks despite repeated reports and escalations. I subsequently received a water bill exceeding R100 000. After months of challenging the billing with supporting documentation, I secured an adjustment. This experience reinforced my belief that residents deserve fair treatment and that problems must be followed through. There has got to be a better way. As the DA candidate my vision is a Durban North where services work, neighbourhoods are safe, local businesses thrive and every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. My philosophy is simple ‘Make Shift Happen’.

Top priorities:

  1. Water and Infrastructure
  2. Municipal billing and service delivery with transparency and accountability
  3. Working towards safer communities and active community engagement
  4. Building a local business support network to create opportunities for jobs and youth engagement
