Driver pins motorist to roundabout, punches door

Police warned against driving aggressively after an uMhlanga road rage incident.

ROAD rage is again in the spotlight after yet another incident in uMhlanga last week. What started as a verbal altercation ended with an irate driver punching the door of another motorist before driving away from the scene and scraping his car against the victim’s. The incident occurred near Twilight Drive on Tuesday this week.

It’s believed the altercation arose after one of the drivers was allegedly cut off while driving around a traffic circle. According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the victim was forced to stop on the roundabout.

“The altercation is believed to have started after the driver felt the victim had cut him off. He forced the motorist against the roundabout, effectively pinning the car to the structure. He then got out of his vehicle and a verbal altercation occurred before he forcefully punched the door. He then drove off but damaged both his and the victim’s car in the incident. The victim said he wasn’t sure what he had done to provoke the attack,” Deokaran, explained.

“Road rage is increasingly common. This latest incident is being investigated but unfortunately it will not be the last,” he said. He warned motorists against driving aggressively and to beware of other aggressive drivers.

Last year, more than 10 road rage incidents were reported to the station.
