SA ‘A’ Dolphins keen to make waves in India
Effingham resident set to return to SA A squad ahead of tour to India.
LEFT arm orthodox Keshav Maharaj is one of four Sunfoil Dolphins about to jet off to India as part of the South African ‘A’ team set to take on both India ‘A’ and Australia ‘A’ in a limited overs triangular and two four-day matches against their sub-continental hosts.
Maharaj enjoyed a sublime final quarter of the 2014/15 season that saw him named the Sunfoil Sizzler for the month of March and ultimately paved the way for the 25 year-old’s selection for the Indian assignment.
The former Northwood School pupil is joined by middle order accumulator Khaya Zondo, top order batsman Cody Chetty and hard-hitting left hander Cameron Delport in the SA ‘A’ limited overs squad but is the lone Dolphin in the longer version’s outfit.
“I’ve just gotten back from three months in the UK where it was great to keep the arm turning over during the winter, something that is really important as a spinner. It was great to play ten or so games over in England but now I’m back in Durban and just trying to make sure I’m fully ready for the trip to India.”
It has been a long wait for the Effingham resident, since his last appearance for the representative side back in April 2011 against Bangladesh.
“It has been a long time and I’m just really glad to earned another chance and I’m really looking forward to going over to India again. I was last in India for the Champions League last year so it will be great to go back there and play in the other formats.”
The limited overs triangular series gets underway on 19 July in a campaign that sees each team play one another twice with the top two sides going through to the final.
