Another policeman killed in crash on R102

Both occupants of the vehicle were police officers.

A POLICE officer has been killed, while a second person, his passenger, was critically injured after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the R102 earlier this morning. Kevin Gopichand, a police officer who was working in crime intelligence at the Greenwood Park police station was the driver of the vehicle.

According to the Reaction Unit South Africa’s Facebook page, the company’s control centre received several calls from motorists reporting the collision.

“Reaction Officers and paramedics were dispatched to the accident and upon arrival found the vehicle, a black VW Golf, in the north bound lane of the R102, just passed the Trade Centre off-ramp. The driver was killed instantly while the passenger sustained life threathening injuries. He was stabilised on scene before being transported in a critical condition to hospital by a private ambulance service. Both occupants of the vehicle were policeman.” the statement read.

This is the second police officer killed this week after a crash in Glenashley claimed the life of a Verulam SAPS officer on Thursday night.
