THE wet weather could not dampen the spirits of Columbia Primary School pupils who recently paid a visit to the Golden Hours School. Several pupils from Grade 6 and 7 from the Greenwood Park school spent the day playing indoor bowls, cricket and other active games with the Golden Hours pupils.

The idea behind it is about making a difference no matter what the circumstances are, explained Brian Mudaly, vice-principal of Columbia.

“Many of our pupils come from informal settlements and disadvantaged backgrounds, and this visit was about instilling a sense of hope in our pupils, that despite their circumstances, they can still make a difference to others. It was a pity the weather didn’t hold up, but I think all the pupils had fun, especially the game of cricket, which seemed to go down a treat with the pupils,” he said.

Mudaly added he would like to make the visit an annual event.

“This was about instilling caring values in our pupils and one that I think has been mutually beneficial. It’s really about fostering community spirit between our schools while enjoying some physical activities,” he said.
