A MAN was arrested and charged for a break-in at a home on Bellamont Road in eMdloti on Wednesday morning. Members of the Durban North SAPS Field Unit and a security company located the suspect who was hiding in the bushes with the loot. According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North station, the suspect and an accomplice had broken into a home earlier that morning on North Beach Road, at about 5am, when they were confronted by a security guard.

“They tried to negotiate with the guard telling him that because they were of the same race, they could split the loot. However the guard refused and when he tried to radio for help, he was attacked by the men. They began pelting him with stones as he ran for cover. The men overpowered him and took his cellphone before running away. The security guard though had still managed to call for back-up when he first spotted the suspects.

“The guard suffered a few injuries to his head but was not seriously harmed. When our field unit and the security company arrived, we conducted a search of the area. We found one of the suspects with a number of stolen items from the home hiding in the bushes along Bellamont Road,” he said.
