Man pinned under bus, rescued

Mechanic suffers rib injuries as bus rolls back onto him.

A MECHANIC is lucky to be alive after he was pinned under a bus in Sea Cow Lake, north of Durban this evening.

Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen said the 39-year-old had been conducting routine maintenance on the bus when something caused the vehicle to move off its stands, rolling backwards and pinning the man between the rear axle and the body work of the vehicle.

“He sustained serious injuries. A call for the assistance of the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services was made and along with a local heavy duty towing company, the delicate extrication process began.

“The man was freed and stabilized before being placed on to a specialized stretcher and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said.
