Radio personality in hot water over cyclist joke
Radio personality, Kevin Minter-Brown, has not only received death threats but is also facing disciplinary action after posting an insensitive joke regarding the safety of cyclists on Facebook.

POPULAR radio personality, Kevin Minter-Brown, has not only received death threats but is also facing disciplinary action after he joked about the safety of cyclists on the roads. This after two cyclists were struck and killed on the M4 near the Swapo (Broadway) offramp on Sunday.
The outrage from community was sparked when Minter-Brown, a senior producer on East Coast TV and Radio, posted the following post on Facebook on Monday:
“I’m thinking of starting a running club… I know there’s plenty of other roads, but I think if there’s an opportunity to put us directly in harm’s way, then why not?”
Minter-Brown has since issued an apology and deleted the post.
However, the producer said the post has ruined his life. He said he has received death threats regarding the insensitive posts and told media he might lose his job.
Minter-Brown claimed that he was motivated to post the statement after doing research for his monthly column in a local newspaper.
He said he had been angered to learn that eight cyclists had died on that stretch of road since 2010, but people continue to use it.
On Monday RTI spokesman, Zinhle Mngomezulu, said cyclists weren’t allowed on freeways.
“The M4 is a designated freeway and cyclists are not allowed to be on a freeway. The extract of our national Road Traffic Act is in our learners’ book due to the fact that we wanted all the road users to understand those critical facts,” she explained.
The victims of the M4 tragedy, Jared Dwyer and Richard da Silva, who are both Kings Park Cycling Club, were killed in the early hours of Sunday morning.
