DA disqualifies Durban North ward candidate
Political party say he was disqualified because of a criminal record.

A LONG-SERVING member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Durban North has resigned. Narendh Ganesh, former DA chairman for Ward 34, was disqualified as a candidate councillor for the upcoming municipal elections.
DA KZN chairman, Haniff Hoosen, said it was brought to the party’s attention that Ganesh had a criminal record against his name for domestic abuse.
“It was later discovered that in his application to be a candidate, he failed to disclose this criminal record and accordingly, disciplinary action was brought against him. We have also taken note that Ganesh had decided to not sign the DA’s anti-racism pledge at our federal council meeting,” he said.
Hoosen added the DA in KZN was currently seized with its candidate selection process for the 2016 Local Government Elections.
“Our core objective is to ensure that we select the very best candidates who are capable and committed to advancing the objectives of the DA and the interests of the communities. Ours is to ensure that every candidate that we select is committed to this course and have an exceptionally clean record,” he said.
