‘Sweet’ photo turns racial

A photo of a domestic worker carrying a dog on her back during a recent storm has been slandered by a former member of the Durban North Neighbours Facebook page.

A PHOTO of a domestic worker carrying a dog on her back has caused an uproar in the Durban North community. The post was shared onto the popular Facebook page, Durban North Neighbours, on Wednesday.

While the majority of the group members felt that the photo was ‘sweet’, one of the members disagreed.

The disgruntled member said he thought the picture should not have been posted, as it was an insult to make one’s domestic worker carry a dog.

The group’s administrator and founder, Kerry Haylett, shot back, saying their post was taken out of context.

“It was not in any way related to race. We wanted to celebrate the fact that this woman cared enough about this dog to carry him and to comfort him when he was feeling scared,” she said.

Before he was blocked from the group, the upset resident deleted his comments.
