Appeal for fête donations
In preparation for the St Luke's Fête coordinators have appealed to the public to donate items to the church, which can be restored and refurbished.
THE annual St Luke’s Fête is once again set to be held at the St Luke’s Congregational Church in Glenashley on Saturday, 4 June.
In preparation for the event, which has become a community tradition, coordinators have appealed to the public to donate items to the church, which can be restored and refurbished.
The refurbished items will be used as raffle prizes or for re-sale to raise funds for the church, said coordinators, Eddie Burns and Rhona Read.
“Last year we were able to raise a significant amount of money which was used to fund the upkeep and maintenance of the church and premises. Ten per cent of all our raised funds are always donated to a charity. In the past we have supported The South African National Tuberculosis Association (SANTA), The Durban & Coast SPCA and Good Luck Foods,” he said.
“We are appealing to anyone who is downsizing or has items that they are planning to donate or throw out to donate them toward the fête,” they added.
The first fête, known as the Floral Fête, was first held in 1960. For years the event was held on the first Saturday of July, where The Durban July Handicap was broadcast live.
