WATCH: Police chase down car thief

The same suspect was later found trying to break into another VW Polo two months after his arrest.

EARLIER this year Durban North SAPS warned of an increase in VW Polo and Toyota Hilux and Fortuner thefts. At the time, Capt Raymond Deokaran, of the Durban North SAPS said he believed a syndicate were operating in the Durban North area area.

“We’ve seen a number of cases from Greenwood Park to Durban North to uMhlanga. Most of the cases of theft have been reported outside residents’ homes. I urge residents, if they can, to park their cars in their garages or behind locked gates as leaving them on the street is dangerous,” Deokaran said.

He added the VW Polo was unofficially the ‘most stolen vehicle’ in the country.

Now video footage has emerged of a high speed chase between a car thief and police in Gauteng. The video was posted on Crime Intelligence & Community Awareness (CICA) YouTube page. Police also recovered a number of car breaking implements.
