Suspect shot during Durban North armed robbery

One of the suspects attempted to stab an officer during the arrest which led to the shooting.

AN armed robber was shot in the leg after attempting to stab a Marshall Security patrol officer. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at about 2am as three armed suspects were trying to force their way into a property on Balmoral Drive.

“The homeowner spotted three suspects trying to force their way into his home and called us. When our officers arrived they found the suspects who had damaged one of the home windows. A scuffle broke out between the suspects, armed with garden tools believed to be stolen, and our reaction officer.

“Our officer was assaulted by one of the suspects with a garden spade. After a call for backup we found the suspects fleeing on foot, a chase ensued with our officers managing to apprehend and arrest them. One of the suspects attempted to stab our reaction officer, who in self-defence, fired a shot striking the suspect in the leg,” said Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen.

He added the scene was handed over to Durban North SAPS for further investigation.

It is believed the three men were involved in a theft out of motor vehicle in the Durban North area earlier in the evening and are linked to various crimes in the area of late.
