TWO construction workers were injured after a trench they were digging collapsed at an uMhlanga residential complex. According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the men were trapped and had to be dug out by rescue personnel. The bank around the construction area collapsed on the men who were in a trench approximately two metres deep.

“Reports from the scene indicate the men, believed to be in their 30s, were digging a trench between a boundary wall of a residential complex of Ilala Ridge and a shopping centre when the bank around them collapsed. They were partially trapped from the waist down and paramedics as well as the fire department assisted to extricate the men. Both suffered lower limb fractures and required advanced life support,” he said.
