Chaining of pets is ‘heartbreaking’

YOUR article in the Northglen News weekending, 30 September regarding the chaining of dogs refers. We animal lovers welcome the news that those who do chain their pets face a hefty fine. We see this all too often and cannot understand why people continue to want pets and then chain them up. They are such unconditional loving beings that absolutely love being close to their owners.
We all need to understand that before we get a pet, which is to become part of our family, we need to look at our boundary walls and make sure our pets cannot get out. Once we have them it is our responsibility to keep checking that our walls are okay and that when our gates open and close they are also kept safely inside.
This is part of our commitment to them. If we are not prepared to do this, do not get a pet. Many, not all, pets that are picked up by concerned animal lovers running in the road have broken free from being chained. They are extremely stressed and unhappy. Some are terribly depressed and unable to be consoled. They are confused and do not understand any form of love and kindness. They have never experienced this at all. This is absolutely heartbreaking.
