Sunningdale resident kidnapped in break-in

The suspects used a knife from the kitchen to hold up and kidnap the resident.

A SUNNINGDALE resident was kidnapped by armed robbers in a house break-in in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident occurred on Brookend Close at about 2am. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, Durban North SAPS, the homeowner was woken up by three men who held a knife to his throat.

The suspects also stole the homeowner’s car in the break-in.

“The suspects had gained entry to the house by forcing the sliding door open and went into the kitchen and got a knife. The men then placed the knife against the homeowner’s throat, they asked him where the safe was and began taking other items.

“The men took R10 000 cash and R50 000 worth of valuables in the safe, which included jewels, two laptops and two cell phones. The men then placed the homeowner into the back of his own vehicle, a red Mazda CX5, and loaded the goods into the car and drove off. When the men neared the N2 off-ramp to KwaMashu they shoved the the man out of the car ,” he said.

Deokaran added police found the distraught homeowner who was walking back to his residence. No arrests have yet been made and the vehicle, which was not fitted with a tracking device, is still missing.
