Spade market fundraiser a success

This year's fundraiser was in aid of Persian Cat Rescue Durban.

THIS year’s Magical Christmas Market fundraiser at the Spade Design Centre has been hailed as a success. For the past four years, the Christmas fundraiser, in aid of various animal rescue organisations, has been held in Durban North. This year, local resident, Denzil Burmester raised funds for Persian Cat Rescue Durban.

“We had a great turnout despite the overcast weather. It’s amazing to see so many people come out and support this initiative. The North Durban community’s support has been so heartwarming to see especially as we had more stalls at the fundraiser this year. Ultimately, the purpose of the day was to raise awareness for what the Persian Cat Resuce organisation does,” Burmester said.

The rescue, is non-profit organisation, run by uMhlanga resident, Sylvia Goncalves, was founded in 2010, and rescues, rehomes and rehabilitates Persians and Chinchillas in Durban and all over South Africa.

“I’ve seen so many people who have adopted cats from me and have supported the organisation. It was great to see so many people learning more about the rescue. It’s incredible what Denzil is doing for us, she has always been a supporter of local animal organisations. We are extremely grateful for any donation or contribution made, no matter how big or small. I’m just happy for the opportunity to spread the word,” she said.
