20 bicycles stolen from Durban cycling academy

Thieves target cycling academy in Durban.

THIEVES stole 20 track bicycles, a gazebo and several chairs from a storage locker at the Cyril Geoghegan Velodrome last week. The bicycles were stolen from the Future Star Sports Academy, which is run by  Hylton Belitzky. It is unclear how the thieves got in to the storage locker.

The value of the items taken amount to more than R210 000.

Belitzky said he was not sure what the thieves would do with the bicycles as all 20 bicycles had a fixed gear with no brakes.

“We are not sure when the break-in occurred, we closed last Wednesday and the thieves managed to get in. I don’t think the thieves know what they were stealing as they are specifically track bicycles. They left seven bicycles, which were worth more in value, behind. It’s extremely disheartening and especially now that we have to replace the bicycles, which cost in excess of R11 000 each,” he said.
