Hawks arrest three in UKZN med school bust
Three people, aged 44, 45 and 54 were arrested after investigations into the allegations bore fruit.

THREE people including a Somerset Park resident have been arrested by the Hawks for allegedly selling places at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine. Hawks spokesperson, captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, confirmed that three people, aged 44, 45 and 54 were arrested after investigations into the allegations bore fruit.
The story hit the headlines after a weekend media reports. Mhlongo said one of the trio worked at an Indian restaurant specialising in vegetarian cuisine.
“They are facing charges of corruption and possession of an unlicensed firearm. At this point we cannot reveal anything else as investigations are ongoing,” he said.
Northglen News has approached UKZN vice chancellor, for comment and are awaiting comment.
The suspects appeared in court on Monday and were released on bail of R40 000.
