Violent protests, looting rocks KwaMashu

Several foreign owned stores are being looted by angry protesters.

VIOLENT protests have broken out in parts of KwaMashu tonight following reports of four children who were allegedly abducted on their way to school this morning. It’s believed some of the protesters blame foreign nationals for the missing children and several shops have been looted.

According to reports roads leading to KwaMashu have been temporarily closed as police attempt to diffuse the situation. Dasen Thathiah of eNCA shared a video on Twitter of their vehicle being stoned by angry residents as he drove through the streets of KwaMashu.

Some foreign nationals are reportedly packing up their stores fearing they may be targeted. Police have also come under attack with reports of SAPS vehicles being stoned. Attempts to get hold of Major Thulani Zwane, provincial spokesman for the SAPS have been unsuccessful.
