Man arrested after stealing headboard in uMhlanga

The headboard was valued at R3 900.

A MAN was caught on CCTV footage stealing a headboard from outside a decor store in uMhlanga last week. The headboard was valued at R3 900. The footage which was initially uploaded to Facebook was later taken down following the man’s arrest. In the footage, the suspect parked his bakkie outside the store before checking to see if the coast was clear.

According to Derek Lategan of Enforce Security, the employees from the store were moving stock when the incident occurred.

“The suspect parked his car outside of the store in uMhlanga and placed the headboard into the back of his bakkie and drove off. After investigations by our controllers and KZN Regional Operations Manager, the suspect’s place of work, contact number and residential address were obtained. He was promptly arrested and handed over to the Durban North SAPS,” Lategan said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, confirmed the suspect had been arrested and the stolen item had been returned to the store.
