IT’S been a busy week for Sunningdale resident, Jason Arnold, who on Monday captured his sixth black mamba in six days. What’s more, one a single property in Waterloo, four mambas, three of whom were male, were looking for a female in the area. On Sunday, he captured two other mambas from a home in Tongaat.

The 39-year-0ld said he expects more call-outs in the coming weeks.

“Snake activity patterns change dramatically over the course of a year. Throughout the cool months, snakes are relatively inactive but they try and eat as much as they can before winter. Mambas (green and black) however, breed in winter and I get a lot of call-outs for them around now for the mating season,” he said.

Arnold urged residents, should they see any venomous snake, to contact a professional rather than approaching them yourself.

“The best thing to do is monitor the snake and call in a professional. Don’t try to approach them or chase them away. Some species are highly aggressive and when threatened, can inject a large volume of venom with one strike,” he said.
