Lill lifts global title, breaks world records

Lill Kimble broke four world records and equalled one in the 50 kilogram weight class.

THERE aren’t enough superlatives to describe uMhlanga’s Lill Kimble who recently broke four world records to be crowned world champ. The 33-year-old competed at the GPC World Powerlifting Champs in Trutnov, Czech Republic. Lill and her husband, Scott, who own and represent Off The Grid (OTG) strength and conditioning facility were part of the Rhino Powerlifting Club (RPC) team at the champs.

In the sport, athletes have three attempts in squat, bench press, and deadlift. Judges take the highest lift in each category and the combination of the three categories determines the results.

Incredibly, the athletes from OTG broke nine world records. Lill broke four world records and equalled one in the 50 kilogram weight class.

“It was an emotional experience being crowned the champ. What made it even more special was to see four athletes from our gym medal at the competition. To be able to share this with my husband made it even more special. My aim going to the champs was to win. Now that I’ve secured the world record, I would love to break it again.

“This was my third title in the last four years which is hugely rewarding. As an athlete and a coach, I can safely say that other competitors aren’t hoping for your failure, they are supporting you which very few sports can boast. The most pleasing part was breaking the combined total world record, it’s the most prestigious and one which every powerlifter chases,” she said.
