Hunt launched for uMhlanga hijacking suspects

The victim was forced into the vehicle in the hijacking which occurred on Lighthouse Road.

DURBAN North SAPS and Marshall Security are currently looking for four armed men involved in a hijacking in uMhlanga earlier on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred on Lighthouse Road, confirmed Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen.

“It is alleged the victim was in her vehicle at a stop street when she was confronted by four armed men on foot. They pushed her into the backseat and then drove off at high speed on the M4 Ruth First Highway. The men then had a blowout on the driver’s side front tyre causing the suspects to lose control of the car and crash into the bushes alongside the freeway. The suspects then jumped out of the vehicle and fled into the bushes with a large amount of cash taken from the victim.

“The victim, suffered a minor bump to the forehead in the crash and escaped serious injury. She was also assaulted by the suspects during the hijacking. The SAPS K9 Unit, Durban North officers and Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT) scoured the area for the suspects but they managed to getaway,” he said.

The hijacking comes on the back of several home invasions in the north Durban area.

Two of the most serious incidents occurred on Thursday last week where a Sunningdale homeowner was stabbed five times by a suspect in a robbery.  A few hours later an 81-year-old man was pistol whipped by armed suspects in a robbery on Edgeley Road.
