Tuesday Life Hack: Try these hacks if you get burned
The smallest burn can hurt the most. Here are some sure-fire remedies to try if you ever find yourself in a painful bind.
Whether it’s from the sun, stove or carpet, few things can feel as painful and uncomfortable as a burn. While there’s nothing to prevent these mishaps from happening, it’s always better to be prepared. Always keep a first-aid kit handy and if the burn is severe, always call a doctor or hospital. If it’s a minor burn you’re trying to treat, here are some hacks to help you along:
For those minor burns
First degree burns are usually minor but can hurt just as much. There are three things you should do if you get burned:
- Attend to the burn immediately before it gets infected and leaves a scar.
- Clean the wound by taking a bath or shower, let it dry in the air if it’s a minor burn or cover with bandage if it’s deep.
- Make sure you use some form of anti-bacterial lubricant before covering it.
Cold water
Placing the burnt area in some cold water for 10-20 minutes is highly recommended as it stops the sensation from lasting longer. Apply a cold press on the burn for a few minutes and then repeat it again after a few hours. Do not apply ice as it will restrict blood flow.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is an essential ingredient in your home as it has multiple functions. Simply, mix some baking soda with water and apply it on the affected area for a few minutes and rinse it afterwards. It helps with irritation and redness.
Honey
Apply some honey to the affected area and it will speed up the healing process and also prevent bacteria.
Toothpaste
Toothpaste applied on the affected area can also accelerate healing.
Aloe Vera gel
Aloe vera gel is used to treat all kinds of skin ailments. It can act as a natural lubricant between the bandage and the wound. It is especially useful for scaring as well.
Essential oils and lard
Tea tree oil, cinnamon oil, thyme oil and oregano oil can also act a good dressing for burns. They can help relieve the sting. Just mix a tablespoon of lard with five drops on a low heat and apply to the wound.
