uMhlanga pub targeted in break-in

The suspects broke into a business on Chartwell Drive on Monday morning.

A POPULAR uMhlanga bar was targeted early on Monday morning in a break-in. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, six men, one of whom was armed, broke into The George at about 5am on Chartwell Drive.

“The suspects damaged the front doors to the pub before making off with four flat screen TVs. They also stole an undisclosed amount of money and an empty cash draw. One of the suspects who was armed stood outside the premises keeping watch. The suspects then fled the scene in a Mercedes AMG. A case of business burglary has been opened and no arrests have yet been made,” he said.

This is the first business robbery/break-in since a La Lucia clothing store at the end of February.

The store was in the process of closing when a suspect entered the stored. He pulled out a handgun and ordered staff members into a room where he locked them in. He then stole a large amount of cash from one of the tills and stole various cell phones.
