A 60-year-old Pretoria resident has collapsed and died at the departures area at King Shaka International Airport on Friday afternoon. According to Reaction Unit South Africa’s (RUSA) Prem Balram, paramedics received a call for medical assistance near the drop-off zone.

“Paramedics from RUSA and IPSS commenced CPR but were unsuccessful in reviving the man. He was pronounced dead a short while later. It is believed that the deceased was en route to board a flight to Johannesburg when he suffered cardiac arrest,” Balram said.

Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs at King Shaka Airport, Colin Naidoo, confirmed the tragic passing of the man.

“The passenger collapsed in the departures area and despite the best attempts of paramedics to resuscitate him, he died. He was due to fly home to Johannesburg today. We are trying to get hold of his next of kin to inform them of the tragic news and to make arrangements for his funeral,” Naidoo said.
