VIDEO-Tyres burn as protest action flares on M19

Traffic has been badly affected as protesters have placed burning tyres across the road.

COMMUTERS have been warned to avoid the M19 before the Umgeni Road interchange due to heavy protest action. Traffic has been badly affected as protesters have placed burning tyres across the road.

According to Arrive Alive, the road has been closed. There is said to be police presence at the scene.

“Public order policing are in attendance. At this stage Crisis Medical are attending to a 30 year old male who sustained injury when police fired rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the crowd. The M19 is closed to traffic heading towards the city. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes. It is believed the protest is over the demolition of informal dwellings in the area,” Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security said.
