Local duo ready for continental competition
Erin Bell and Andrew Flynn, who are members of the Durban North Gymnastics Club say they are looking forward to the event in which they will be representing the South African junior team.
TWO Durban North gymnasts are hoping to leap into contention at the upcoming African Championships for Artistic Gymnastics, which begins later this week in Namibia.
Erin Bell and Andrew Flynn, who are members of the Durban North Gymnastics Club say they are looking forward to the event in which they will be representing the South African junior team.
For Northwood School learner, Andrew Flynn, the championships will be a first for him in his gymnastics career.
“I’m really excited as this is my first time representing South Africa. It’s a dream come true for me and I’m extremely honoured to represent my country. I’ve set myself the goal of making the final but I know the competition will be stiff. I think being involved in this kind of competition is extremely beneficial for any athlete,” he explained.

Flynn will be joined by fellow club member, Erin Bell. The Danville Park Girls’ High School learner will be representing the country for a second time after competing at an international competition in Liberec, Czech Republic, last year.
“I’m very excited but a little nervous as well. Competing in the Czech Republic was fantastic but this competition will be a whole new experience. I’ve been training really hard for the competition and I’m looking forward to making everyone proud. I’ve learned so much from my coaches Arge Nienhuser and Tamlynn Carlson who have been great in getting me mentally and physically prepared for the competition,” he said.
Neinhuser, who runs the club said it was a proud moment for the club and added the duo would inspire other gymnasts at the club to emulate their success.
