Scam artist arrested in Durban North

The suspect is believed to be linked to several cases of theft across the greater Durban area.

DURBAN North SAPS have confirmed a man was arrested on Friday after a crime-driven operation between the station and Marshall Security.

According to the security company spokesman, Kyle van Reenen, the suspect is believed to be linked to several cases of theft across the greater Durban area.

“The suspect operates on a particular modus operandi which sees him responding to online classified advertisements for cellphones and electronic devices.

“The man leads the would-be seller into believing that he is interested in purchasing the item they have on offer and suggests they meet him at a location in Durban. However, after meeting the suspect, the victim is robbed of their belongings,” van Reenen said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North police, said the station’s Field-Unit were involved in the sting operation.
