Celebrate Riverside Trail’s special milestone

The group currently has planned runs every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday but is hosting a special run for it's eighth birthday.

TO celebrate its eighth birthday Riverside Trail will hold a special Wednesday run on 3 October from the Checkers at Virginia Circle at 5.15am. The group has more than 130 members and is growing confirmed one of its founders, Buzz Bolton.

“During the run there will be a chill zone set up for a birthday snack and liquid refreshments. All past and present trail blazers who have spent time with this group are welcome to join the party. The running route will be approximately seven kilometres and the walkers four kilometres,” Bolton explained.

The group currently has planned runs every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and Bolton has been impressed with the support of the community.

“Riverside Trail was formed in 2010 and originally met at the Total garage on Broadway. From a core group of seven founder trail runners the membership has swelled to over 130 of which approximately 70 are regulars which is just incredible. Virginia Bush has been our favoured place to run where the trails are well maintained and safe.

“Over the years we have enjoyed watching our local hero, Eric Ngubane, blossom as a trail runner and have had the pleasure of having the legend, Ryan Sandes, join us for a number of early morning runs,” he said.
