KZN softball team brings the heat

KZN men's softball team qualifies for final weekend of National Premier Softball League.

THE KZN Men’s Softball Team (KZN Heat) recently competed in the National Premier Softball League sponsored by Sports and Recreation South Africa.

The event was hosted by Limpopo Softball and Softball South Africa in Polokwane in very warm conditions.

With all softball provinces represented, the Heat got off to a slow start with just two wins out of four on the first day of the competition.

They bounced back with a further two wins on the second day putting them in a third versus fourth playoff match against Western Cape Hawks to qualify for the finals weekend on 1 June.

In the playoff qualifier, scores were level at 4-4 going into extra tie breaker innings.  It was then tied 6 – 6 after the 8th innings. Going down 9-6 in the top of the 9th inning, KZN Heat fought back to win 10 – 9 and booked their place for Cape Town.

Coach Mark Olivier, said he was very proud of the unit and of the way the younger players came through and contributed to the effort.
