Letting their hair down for cancer
While long hair was such a big part of the girls' image, caring for others far outweighed their love of long locks.
BEST friends, Emily Nilsen and Elizabeth Pringle, both 10 years old, had a very special haircut recently when they cut their princess-like locks off to support Tara Pringle, who is tackling stage three breast cancer.
Tara, who is Elizabeth’s mother, said she was touched by the girls’ bravery.
“These are two girls that are absolutely crazy about princesses and having long hair like Rapunzel. It’s very brave to cut your long hair into a bob-I used to have long hair myself and I don’t know if I would have done that. It’s hard for people to really know what it’s like to have loose your hair- it’s your image,” she said.

And while long hair was such a big part of the girls’ image, caring for others far outweighed their love of long locks.
“I live for helping people. We always think we need more, but it is the opposite, the less fortunate need help- anyone going through a hard time,” said Elizabeth who had been growing her hair for seven years.
Emily said she had not had short hair since she was three years old.
“I wanted to have a change and donate my hair to support my favourite aunty, Tara,” she said, ” o matter where I am, I think about people who are less fortunate than me and I hope they will get all good things.”

Tammy Nilsen, mother to Emily also cut her hair as a show of support, although she did not have enough hair to donate.
“If Tara can do that, we can do this,” she said.
