WITH the spate of remote jamming incidents police officers from Durban Central arrested four suspects, aged between 25 and 29, hours after they committed a crime on Monday.

In a statement issued by the Colonel Thulani Zwane provincial spokesperson of the SAPS police said the suspects were found in possession of remote jammers, car breaking implements and dangerous weapons. He said they are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.

In June Durban North SAPS warned residents of a spike in theft out of motor vehicles in uMhlanga and Durban North where criminals syndicates are using remote jammers. The warning came after eight cases were reported in just one week alone.

Zwane said: “The police officers were conducting crime prevention operations at Durban Central when they spotted a vehicle with four occupants. The vehicle was intercepted and searched. Four suspects were found in possession of a cellphone suspected to be stolen from a vehicle a few hours earlier in the CDB.  The arrested suspects were also linked to a business robbery in the Point policing precinct which was reported last month.”
