Suncoast Casino roof collapse message is a hoax

Police and rescue personnel have urged residents to stop sharing the message and spreading panic.

POLICE and rescue services have condemned messages spreading on social media suggesting a portion of the roof at Suncoast Casino has collapsed killing 11 people.

The message reads: “Terrible news, part of the ceiling at Suncoast Casino collapsed killing 11 people and injuring 15. Terrible. People screaming everywhere. It’s chaos. Police on the way. People also started looting shops. It’s like a war zone. Keep away. Tell your friends. It’s terrible. Emergency Services on scene trying to maintain order. Utter chaos.”

Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical, urged residents to stop sharing the message and spreading panic.

“We can confirm that this is a hoax. A small part of the globe structure suffered damage in winds however no injury was reported. Please do not forward on hoax messages,” he said.
