THE management of the Durban North SAPS station has commended detective warrant officer, Vicky Moodley for securing a lengthy conviction of a suspect involved in the burglary of a jewellery store in uMhlanga.

According to the station spokesperson, Capt Raymond Deokaran, four suspects were arrested in all for their involvement in a break-in at Cherry Design Jewellery at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in 2013.

“After successfully investigating the incident, Detective Moodley was able to arrest four suspects, one of whom worked at the jewellery store. One of the suspects was handed a 15-year jail sentence in November last year and is currently behind bars at the Westville Prison.

“Through the investigations, the detective was also able to recover R7.5-million worth of jewellery stolen in the burglary. It is extremely hard to secure a lengthy conviction for a break-in but thanks to the excellent work, detective Moodley was able to do so. This is a tremendous success for the station and the station commander is extremely proud of him,” Deokaran explained.
