Glenashley author pens second novel

"Snake Charm of the Oracle is different to any other fantasy. It's not the typical plot. I wanted to give the reader introspection, something more real that people could understand,"

GLENASHLEY has a new author, Kal Locksley. The talented wordsmith has written her second, self-published book, Snake Charm of the Oracle, an enticing fantasy adventure.

Locksley relocated to KwaZulu-Natal in 2020 and immediately fell in love with her new area code.

The novel follows Dustin, a young man who is thrust into a destiny he does not want. The antagonist is Eostra, a millennium-old undead warrior created by the Necromancer, the most feared sorcerer in the history of Darkwell. The Necromancer himself is a man who set out to find the cure for death after he lost his daughter.

“It is a tale spanning over a thousand years, three stories divided by time, intertwined in ways our heroes could never imagine. It is about loyalty, betrayal and redemption,” she said proudly.

Locksley, who is originally from Pretoria, worked in corporate sales but her love for writing was there ever since she was in high school. When she moved to Durban, she decided to concentrate solely on her writing.

“I spent a lot of time upskilling myself and completing courses and online training. I also did a lot of reading. Writing is a skill that you must hone. You have to put in the effort and hard work,” she said.

Locksley’s first book, The Tailors’ Apprentice, was aimed at children between the ages of six and 11 years. When she developed the plot for her second book, Locksley said she wanted it to relate to a wider age group and aimed for young adults and adults.

Snake Charm of the Oracle is different to any other fantasy. It’s not the typical plot. I wanted to give the reader introspection, something more real that people could understand,” she said.

Speaking about her fans, Locksley said she has a growing following overseas.

“I launched my first book on Amazon and sold them at 1c per ebook, and it came back with good reviews. I gained popularity and started interacting with authors and readers overseas,” she said.

Snake Charm of the Oracle will be launched on YouTube, worldwide, on November 1 at 8pm.
The first three chapters will be free and those who attend the launch stand a chance to win a soft copy.
